Yes! In a change of pace from delivering wheelchair vans nationwide, the team from AMS Vans showed their support for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) by delivering bags filled with bottled water, koozies, and chapstick to the walkers at Houston’s Galleria Mall Saturday, April 27th for the 2013 Muscular Dystrophy Muscle Walk.
In their third year of participation, the AMS Vans team helped make sure the walk participants were hydrated and encouraged along the way. While the company’s staffers handed out bags, the children of the company’s team (way to go, Ashley, Lexi and Avery!) joined the walkers in their effort to raise money for the MDA. The money goes toward research to find a cure and to families affected by muscular dystrophy.
According to AMS Vans’ mobility consultant Tamara Holland, “The Muscle Walk is one of our favorite annual events, because the money we raise gets us closer to a cure. At the end of the day, we feel a sense of accomplishment in being able to touch so many people’s lives far beyond what we do in providing mobility independence with handicap vans.”
For every dollar raised at this event, 100% goes directly to support the MDA and those living with muscular dystrophy in the Houston area. A prime example is the MDA Summer Camp in Burton, Texas, just southeast of Houston. This amazing camp introduces kids with neuromuscular disease to a world designed specifically for them. It’s a safe, fun outdoor experience–swimming, adaptive sports, arts and crafts, horseback riding, camp dances, and best of all, the opportunity to make new friends.
For the walkers, well, we agree with the MDA, which said, “When you reach your fundraising goal and the finish line of your MDA Muscle Walk, every one of your nearly 650 muscles will feel fantastic–we guarantee it!”
It is a great feeling, and we hope you’ll join AMS Vans for the 2014 Muscular Dystrophy Muscle Walk.
